Sesame Ginger Beef

My sister made a similar recipe during one of her visits and it was an instant success with my family, even earning acclaim from my 3 year old. It’s a perfect salty, slightly sweet protein with just the right amount of kick. Paired with jasmine rice and roasted broccolini, it makes the perfect Asian inspired dinner.

Prep Time: 5 min

Cook Time: 15 min

Total Time: 20 min

Serves 3-4

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed (dark brown sugar for added depth and sweetness)
  • 1/4 soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced or grated
  • 1 pound ground beef, or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds
  1. In a small bowl whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and ginger. Set aside
  2. Brown your beef, whichever option you chose. Remove meat from pan and drain fat (if applicable).
  3. Place pan back over medium heat and add the garlic, stirring constantly until fragrant, about 1 minute
  4. Add the meat back to the pan along with the liquid mixture. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until liquid is slightly reduced.
  5. Serve of rice – jasmine or basmati are my family’s favorites, and with a vegetable of your choice.
